First Aid training courses

Gus Wood of GHW Training demonstrating first aid skills.

This one-day course is suitable for any business or organisation where an assessment of First Aid needs has identified a lower risk environment.

It is suitable for a variety of businesses, such as retail and hospitality.

Please note that, if an assessment identifies a higher risk, then a First Aid at Work course would be more suitable.

Also note that delegates on a refresher or re-qualification course must be in possession of a First Aid at Work certificate valid within 28 days of the course start date.

The course content, set by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), will help participants understand the role of the first-aider and manage a range of First Aid emergencies, including:

  • the importance of preventing cross-infection;
  • the need for recording incidents and actions;
  • using available equipment;
  • assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • how to administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
  • how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of an automated external defibrillator;
  • how to administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
  • how to administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded
    and bleeding;
  • how to administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
  • how to provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).

Red phone box converted to a defibrillator station.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machines are located on high streets, in shopping centres, outside many community buildings and even in parks and other outdoor spaces.

(They are often stored inside disused red telephone boxes, so can be easy to spot.)

A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest.

Used in conjunction with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) AED machines dramatically increase a person’s chance of surviving a heart attack.

BUT, many people don’t feel confident using them.

So if you’d like to learn how to save a life using an AED, book one of our one hour awareness sessions.

If you would like a private session for your company, club or charity, there will be a charge of £100+VAT to cover costs. You will be invoiced once your booking is confirmed.
